Your wards are safe with us, IIT Jammu reaches out to parents

Worried over the safety of their children, studying in J&K, in the prevailing tense situation after the scrapping of Article 370, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu has assured all such parents that their children were very much safe in the campus.

Sources said there was fear among parents of the students over the continued communications blackout in the Kashmir valley. To address this crucial issue, IIT Jammu had recently issued an advisory to the parents. It was mentioned that the situation was normal in Jammu and the business was as usual at the IIT campus.

It further added that all classes and laboratories were being conducted as per the time table.

However, as a precautionary measure, the students studying in IIT Jammu had been advised not to roam outside the campus.

Commodore (Retd) Naresh Kumar, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at IIT Jammu, told The Tribune that the academic activities continued as per the schedule.

“Not even a single day has been wasted as far as conduct of classes is concerned. Of course, the situation is tense in the Valley but the situation here is absolutely normal,” the OSD said. “Safety and security of students is of primary importance to us and IIT Jammu has taken all necessary measures in this regard. Parents have been told that they should not worry at all”.

“In case of any emergency, the parents are free to contact the helpline number +911912570633 or send an email at helpdesk@iitjammu.ac.in,” Naresh Kumar maintained.

“Before they contact us to enquire about the safety of their children, we decided to inform them about the same through an advisory as well as through calls/messages,” the OSD added.
