Jammu, February 8
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vice-president Mohammad Sartaj Madni today said Jammu and Kashmir was proving to be the best beneficiary of the goods and sales tax.
In a statement, Madni said the government led by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had handled the issue with utmost care with regard to the state’s fiscal autonomy. He said specific economic considerations were also being duly taken into account, with the Finance Minister getting vindicated on all commitments made by the government to the business community and other stakeholders.
“The government has retained all its authority bestowed on it by the state’s constitution for tax assessment and tax administration. This should allay all apprehensions spread when the state government decided to implement the GST in the state,” he said.
Madni said not only had the Central government respected the state government’s stand on constitutional position, but it had also agreed to all proposals regarding tax exemptions on handicrafts and other such products and businesses.
