As many as 700 contestants from 20 SIP Learning Centres representing Punjab and HP competed in the 5th Regional Abacus, Brain Gym & Mental Arithmetic Competition held in Chandigarh on November 5. The competition was organised by SIP Academy India Pvt Ltd.

As many as 700 contestants from 20 SIP Learning Centres representing Punjab and HP competed in the 5th Regional Abacus, Brain Gym & Mental Arithmetic Competition held in Chandigarh  on November 5.  The competition was organised by SIP Academy India Pvt Ltd.

Students in the age group of 6 to 12 years from various regions of North India showcased their calculation ability through abacus, an ancient tool of calculation. The children were required to do 260 sums in 11 minutes. 140 sums of addition/ subtraction in 8 min. & 120 sums of multiplication/ division in 3 min. “The students were tested on their concentration, confidence, intelligence, speed and accuracy. It is heartening to see the competitive spirit amongst these children and their self-confidence. Essential for life” said Jagdeep Singh, State Head - Punjab of SIP India Academy Pvt. Ltd.

Thapar varsity convocation

As many as 1,731 degrees were awarded at the 31st convocation of Thapar University, Patiala, last week. These included 73 PhD degrees, 693 master’s in engineering, sciences, humanities and management and 961 bachelor’s degrees in engineering.

Professor Joseph Klafter, President, Tel Aviv University, was the Chief Guest. Dr G. Viswanathan, Founder and Chancellor of the VIT University, Vellore, was the Guest of Honour. Gautam Thapar, President Thapar University, presided over the function and awarded medals. The award winners included Divanshu Kapila who received the President’s Medal for securing the highest CGPA, Celeste Goel won the S. Ranbir Singh Memorial Medal for Best All-Round performance. Shreya was awarded the Prof V. Rajaraman Computer Science Engineering Award, and Naman Garg  was awarded the S. Ram S. Sidhu Memorial Medal. The 61-yr old Thapar University has partnerships with other esteemed and globally ranked universities including with Trinity College Dublin and Tel Aviv University Israel.

Daikin India signs MoU with Manav Rachna University

An MoU was signed between Manav Rachna University (MRU) and Daikin Air-Conditioning India Pvt. Ltd. (DAIPL) to establish a ‘Daikin Centre of Excellence’ at the MRU campus recently. While sharing the purpose behind this MoU, APS Gandhi, GM, Services, Training & Development, DAIPL said, “This tie-up will ensure hands on practical exposure for the students and help them acquire the new technologies being practiced in the air-conditioning industry including the VRV technology, refrigerant technology and inverter technology.
