Q. What makes a successful application? — Anu Jain
A. Top-ranked universities outside India offer multiple paths to an admission. You could be an academic superstar or be great in co-curricular pursuits. Some others choose to showcase their leadership and organisational abilities through the positions of responsibility that they have held. Many showcase the depth of their experience and focus on their internships. And most students demonstrate their passion for a chosen field through deep experience in specific extra-curricular, sports or social activities.
The only constant is ‘demonstrated commitment’. Picking out a profile that is unique to you and demonstrating excellence through years of hard work and progressive improvement is one sure shot method of crafting a successful application. Copy-paste or just doing an activity for the sake of it usually does not work.
Quest for better job prospects
Q. What are the job prospects after graduating from an overseas college? — Pankaj Sharma
A. Let’s face it — one of the prime reason that we all like to go abroad to study is to improve our job prospects. However, the fact remains that India is the fastest growing economy in the world and driven by great opportunities in India, you are most likely to come back. However, in the short term, if you are a graduate from a good university, you have a very good chance of getting a good job. Most top schools report close to 100 per cent employment rates within three months of graduation. So, my advice is to focus on top universities if you are looking to secure your future.
