Preparations for student council elections at Panjab University have begun as PUSU announced its 14-member panel today.

Navi Khemkaran of political science department has been announced as the president. He was ousted from SOI yesterday only. Navi has been SOI’s election in-charge in the past. SOI claims that he was demanding president’s post which became the reason for his ouster.

Binda Gujjar has been chosen as party chairman while Kabal Sumag is campus chairman. Navjot Sran is campus president and Ankush Monga is senior vice-president. PUSU alliance with National Students Union of India (NSUI Students Front) and Himachal Students Association (HSA) won all the four seats of president, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary last year.

It was after three years that a student party with no political party backing had won the elections. Nishant Kaushal is the current president, Avneet Kaur vice-president, Ashiq Mohammed is secretary while Amit Kaushik is joint secretary. Around 68 per cent of the roughly 15,000 students voted last year.
