KU professor elected fellow in US

Prof Sheikh Javid Ahmad, Dean, Research, Kashmir University, and noted physicist, has been elected Fellow of the prestigious American Physical Society (APS). This was stated by a university spokesman said.

The spokesman said a letter to Javed from APS Honors Manager read: “I have the honour of informing you that the APS Council of Representatives at its September 2015 meeting acted favourably on your nomination for fellowship in the society upon the recommendation of the Forum on International Physics.”

It further read: “The citation which will appear on your fellowship will read: ‘For a pioneering contribution to the study of nuclei beyond the valley of stability.”

Javid’s name and Fellowship citation will be published in an upcoming issue of APS News, the letter added. Javid studied at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, and obtained his PhD degree in Theoretical Physics in 1987. — TNS
