Jammu, February 17
The first general council of the BJP-led Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, will meet at the Council Complex on February 19 and 20.
Official sources said the general council would review the “performance” of the previous Congress-led LAHDC and deliberate on the progress achieved in various sectors.
The LAHDC governs Leh district politically. The general council holds its session like the Assembly session.
The general council would review the performance of the previous Congress-led LAHDC headed by Rigzin Spalbar and progress achieved in different sectors during its term.
“We will review the expenditure incurred on various projects and schemes in the last five years and discuss the plan for the next five years,” the sources said.
The sources said the BJP-led LAHDC’s plan for the next five years was expected to be finalised by the end of this month.
It might come under discussion during the meeting. “The council may adopt some important resolutions on the two days,” the sources said.
This will be the first-ever meeting of the council since its constitution on November 3 last year. The BJP has 18 members in the 30-member Leh council.
The Congress has five seats and the National Conference two while one member is an Independent. Elections to 26 of the 30 seats were held on October 17.
The government can nominate four councillors. The previous PDP-BJP government could not decide on nominations and the seats were left vacant following imposition of Governor’s rule on January 8.
The sources said the LAHDC had already decided to submit a detailed proposal to the state government for a comprehensive package of Rs 350 crore for rebuilding infrastructure which got damaged in floods.
“The general council is expected to hold a discussion on the proposal and chalk out a strategy for immediate restoration of damaged infrastructure,” the sources said.
The proposal included the provision of compensating families who lost their members in the floods. Of the projected demand, Rs 100 crore was required to restore damaged government infrastructure in the district.
