Land mutation in names of ex-minister Rana Gurjit’s brother, wife cancelled
Kharar, January 27
In what appears to be another shock to the controversial former Punjab Minister Rana Gurjeet Singh, his brother Rana Ranjeet Singh and Ranjeet’s wife, both residents of Chandigarh, have lost the 142 kanals of prime land worth crores at Seonk village in Kharar sub-division, on the periphery of Chandigarh. Kharar SDM Amaninder Kaur has ordered the cancellation of the mutation of the land in the names of Rana Ranjeet and his wife.
An appeal was filed by Sher Singh and Mohinder Singh, both residents of Seonk, against the revenue entry made by the Naib Tehsildar of Majri.
The applicants pleaded before the SDM that the land in question was in the possession of khewatdars of the village since ages. “The land measuring 142 kanals purchased by Ranas in Seonk was a ‘gair mumkin pahar’ and was in the category of forests and hence, they have no possession over it,” they argued.
They said the order of Naib Tehsildar making girdawari of the land in the name of the Ranas was bad in the eyes of law. Undue haste was shown in this case as no opportunity of hearing was given to the applicants. The opposite party refuted the charges. However, the SDM dismissed the mutation entry qua the land in question and ordered that the case be decided again after hearing both parties and following the laid down procedure. — OC
