Shimla: Consumers in the state will have to pay Rs 5 more for a 9-watt LED bulb that will now cost Rs 70 instead of Rs 65 under the Ujala scheme. The GST on LED has been hiked after the tax regime was rolled out in the country from July 1. According to a release issued by the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), the GST on lED has resulted in the increase in price of LED bulbs. A 9-watt bulb would now cost Rs 70 instead of Rs 65 as was the case earlier, a spokesperson of the company said. He said the 9-watt LED bulb was priced at Rs 70, 20-watt LED tubelight was priced at Rs 220 and 5-star rated fans would be available at Rs 200 due to the GST rate. The company claimed that the EESL, which was functioning under the administration of the Ministry of Power, was distributing LED bulbs and tubelights at lesser price to consumers as compared to their market price.
