Refer to ‘Upward trend in sex ratio’ (September 18); it is good to see the progress report of Haryana in its sex ratio reaching near equality. The government is doing its best, financially and morally, to boost this mission. What is lacking is awareness on this issue in most remote areas of the country. More volunteers and NGOs should be involved in this mission so it reaches every part of the country. If small pox can be eradicated from the world, polio from entire India, why not this taboo of gender bias! 928/1000 is an impressive figure but the goal is to achieve 1000/1000. Every goal requires a deadline. The same should be achieved by 2028-2030.

RSS not all bad
Apropos ‘RSS most democratic-, always driven by consensus: Bhagwat’ (September 18), Bhagwat’s lecture-series should dispel all misconceptions about the RSS, which has been performing its duty since its inception in 1925 to create swayamsevaks strong in character and committed to the service of the nation. Leaders like Vajpayee and Modi had been groomed by the RSS. Bhagwat has asserted that the RSS considered many Congress leaders who participated in the freedom struggle as its inspiration. How I wish the Opposition leaders, who have always abused the RSS, had the courage to listen, but they have an ingrained prejudice against it.

BJP or Cong, NPAs mount
Refer to the editorial ‘Did ex-RBI chief fumble” (September 13); Rajan, as the RBI Governor, had already brought the so-called high-profile cases to the notice of the PM in April 2015. He further informed that these frauds had taken place during the past 10-15 years. NPAs amounted to about Rs. 2.43 lakh crore, as on September, 2014, of which Rs. 87,368 crore pertained to the top 30 corporate houses. PM Modi held a meeting of the defaulters in Feburary 2015 but NPAs increased to Rs. 6,36,323 crore as on September 2016 and as per the latest report as on 31 March 2018, NPAs are Rs. 10,35,528 crore. May be, it is high time that the RBI came out of its shell and shared the factual position. It is not out of place to mention here that after the formation of the BJP government, Rs. 75,000 crore of the big defaulters was restructured in the last quarter of 2014.

Keep religion apart
Apropos the Editorial "Be moderate" September 18); an unpleasant debate is going in Punjab after the Justice Ranjit Singh report. We should not forget Punjab had suffered much due to the escalation of religious sentiments, these need not be exploited. Religious matters should be left to the managements who run such institutions irrespective of all religions. Political leaders should refrain from ill-conceived rhetoric and keep their cool. Religious harmony must be preserved at all costs.

Another innocent dies
Refer to five-year-old falls in manhole (September 17); this is not the first time this has happened. Many such incidents had occurred. Manhole and borewell tragedies have taken many innocent lives. Who is responsible: the Government, civic bodies or the community? Strict action must be taken against guilty so that no such incidents happen in future.

No Vedic traces here
Apropos ‘Rakhigarhi to showcase ancient culture to world: Capt Abhimanyu’ (September 16); it is a very welcome step by the Haryana Government. However, one cannot agree with the comments of the Haryana Finance Minister that Rakhigarhi had unique treasures of Vedic civilisation. When we enquired from the excavators of that site, they told us that there is nothing of the sort as Vedic civilisation came after the Harappans. Rakhigarhi represents only the early-Harappan to mature–Harappan periods. It is the habit of BJP ministers to stretch every event according to their own assumptions. The truth of history can not be distorted.

Right on Pakistan
Reference to the news, "New PM, same Pak: Rajnath" (September 18), Our home minister has rightly commented on Pakistan’s attitude towards India. Though the guard has changed in PAK, the same opposition to India continues. Punjab Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu went to Pak with high hopes. His reputation is at stake.
