Serving the audience what they like is Band Vaaje, another rollicking comedy that has for its face the very popular Pollywood star Binnu Dhillon. This time around he is paired opposite gorgeous Mandy Takhar, and this madcap movie pegged around misunderstanding is due to hit this Friday.
All humble, all grateful is Binnu. “It’s the love and blessings of the Almighty along with that of family, and friends and fans that from two-minute roles I have graduated to full-length films,” he says.
Another film on wedding, someone asks, and he is quick to point out, while the poster is, the film all together another journey, “As an actor I do want to try my hands at different stuff, and trust me, each of my film takes a different tangent than the previous.”
One thing that he’s consistent is, however, wandering into the fun zone. “Coming from Sameep Kang, it has to be a hilarious one. And, why get bogged down by a million worries; a film that makes one laugh is welcome.”
Mandy herself was waiting a change of lanes from serious to humorous, “Audience nu bahut rulaya. This is one ride that I was waiting and the film is high on laughter.”
Words of wisdom
While speaking of good times and bad, social media becomes the topic of discussion and all agree how this is one major cause leading to unhealthy competition and major source of stress. “Like in real life, in virtual, don’t take anything too seriously,” tips Mandy. “Each platform comes with the good and bad, I try to use it to spread as much positivity as I can,” she adds.
Binnu on the other hand is dead against our over-dependence on social media. “I absolutely abhor how it’s used to promote the undeserving. If only we support true artistes it can make careers and enrich culture.” The discussion wanders from entertainment to message to medium and as Binnu extols, someone from gathering points out ‘Binnu sayana ho gaya’. Well, catch him doing what he is best at – tickling the funny bone – with Band Vaaje!
Mutual fan club
Mandy and Binnu go back together from her starting days. “I remember how he came and complimented on my act as Sahiba. It meant so much to me as a fresher trying hard to prove herself.” Binnu calls her a ‘classic’ co-star in return!
Name game
Every film comes with its own destiny. A Pakistani girl as a protagonist is not new in the world of entertainment but given the current sensitive scenario when even a dog wasn’t given entry in a dog show for its breed is imported from Pakistan, this film fell in troubled waters. Originally titled, Kudiye Lahore Diye, the team was quickly put to action. “Yes, we changed the title and removed as much as we could, dialogues, acts that could hurt the sentiments for today in the time of trouble, we stand together with our Army,” says staid Binnu.
