Director Ali Abbas Zafar in a very quick span of time has become one of the most coveted directors in Bollywood. With Bharat comfortably going past the Rs 200 crore mark, Ali now has two Rs 300 crore films such as Tiger Zinda Hai and Sultan and one Rs 200 crore blockbusters to his credit. Only Rajkumar Hirani has the same career trajectory in Bollywood. He too has delivered two Rs 300 crore films (PK and Sanju) and one Rs 200 crore blockbuster (3 Idiots).
Sharing his excitement, Ali says, “It’s humbling to get so much love from audiences. When I set out to make a film, I don’t think about records. That’s never my approach. It could be a hugely limiting, pressurising proposition for any film-maker especially me because I value storytelling.
“As a film-maker, my intent is to deliver quality entertainment as well as business. I intend to continue making these big-scale, emotional spectacles because these are the movies that the entire nation go to the theatres to celebrate. The success of my films bolsters my belief in making cinema that is accessible, entertaining and that has its heart at the right place. Cinema for me is a medium that transports people from their realities and they should experience all the emotions and enjoy them to the hilt. I will continue making these out-and-out masala entertainers because that’s why I like to do best,” he adds.
