An idealist aiming to teach in a ‘pind’ in Punjab is what Jonita Doda plays in her film Patta Patta Singhan Da Vairi that hits screens this Friday.

The film, though set in 1982-92, generally known as the ‘dark’ period, focuses on the strength it gave to society to walk back to normalcy.

“The film is standing up for self. Even in those troubled time, people followed 11 people baraat rule as not to be a burden on the bride’s family,” opens up Jonita.

Elated at Punjabi cinema receiving the kind of attention worldwide, she feels that it increases the responsibility on people involved in the industry.

“After long, the audiences have formed a connect with Punjabi films and dishing them out half-baked products wouldn’t work for us.”

Currently caught up with the shooting for a Malyalam and a Telugu film, Jonita loves calling Mumbai her home. A total family person that she is, she has made her parents relocate to her new city and loves spending time with her pets Celia and Sultan, while her brother shuttles between Chandigarh and Mumbai.

“We are a close-knit family and try to spend as much time together as possible,” says Jonita who enjoyed her last holiday in Mauritius along with her family.

By the end of the year, Jonita plans to roll out a film by her production house Cinevalley which would be a love story rooted in Punjab.

Being an actor keeping fit comes as a professional requirement. Jonita does it by watching what she eats and working out everyday. The day she wants to take a break from mean machines, it’s swimming or dancing on cards.
