The first & the last

I celebrate Navaratri as I belong to a spiritual family. All the nine days I worship all the nine forms of Goddess Durga. This year I am shooting, so it’s quite difficult for me to do all of them, but I always fast on the first and last day of Navratri i.e. Ashtami. During the fasts, I eat fruits and coconut water. Before moving to Mumbai, I used to do act in Ramleela which I miss now.

Carrying forward the tradition

From this Navratri, I have started fasting on nine days. Because my mother used to do nine days of fast and few months back, she passed away, so I want to continue that tradition. This year, the festival is even more important as I am working on a big show, Yeh Rishta Kya Kahlata Hai. I had also learnt cooking from my mother, which we can specially eat in Navratri.

Navratris are very special as I am from Kolkata and that place is known for Durga Puja. I celebrate proper nine days of worship and rituals at my home. On the day of Ashtami, I and my mother visit Durga Pandal and there we meet relatives and friends and worship. We also play Sindor Khela, which is very important.
