Fashion comes naturally to her
Gurnaaz Kaur
UK-born actress Mandy Takhar is a fashionista in a not-so-fashion-like way. Be it Mirza-The Untold Story, in which she played Sahiba, her role as a teacher in Tu Mera 22 Main Tera 22 or sporting the character of a strong, independent woman in Khido Kundi, this actress has put her mind not just in who the character is but also how it appears. Her idea of fashion revolves around comfort and she likes to experiment with everything.
It’s individualistic
Fashion is an extension of a person. It’s about knowing what’s your comfort zone and then finding your own fashion within that zone. For me, it varies according to moods, seasons and country. It could be sporty, boho chic, hippy or traditional.
Forever favourite
Indian and sportswear are my all-time favourite. In accessories, I like grunge and traditional jewellery. You’ll mostly find me in a salwar kameez or sportswear as they are most comfortable. Comfort is the priority for me. I would never go out of my way to wear something that’s pretty but uncomfortable.
Pick by tag
I am not at all brand conscious. I just buy what I like, branded and non-branded alike. I don’t think flaunting is a good idea, instead, it feels tacky.
Passionate about
I am crazy about collecting shoes. I have so many shoes that I don’t have a count and many times I even forget what all is there in the closet.
Love is
Perfumes are purely love. Fragrance is essential for me and my favourite these days is Gucci Rush.
Brand value
Like I said, I am not fussy about brands but my favourite brand is Louis Vuitton and I say this purely for the quality it gives. I had bought a bag many years and it serves me well even today.
To die for
Colour red; it’s a weakness. Every time I am in Punjab, I end up buying a new red suit with different work and combination. Recently I bought a red and white suit that has Kashmiri work on it and I have already decided two different ways of wearing it with some mix and match.
When it gets too much
Whenever I feel I have too many clothes or that I am not using some, I give them away. I believe in recycling and charity equally.
No pressure
I’ve never felt the pressure to look stylish or pretty or rich. I’d rather be all of it than look one.
All for self
I love dressing up but that’s for my own self and my ways are such that I enjoy them because I have fun with my clothes. Sometimes I’ll team up jeans, a smart shirt or t-shirt with bangles or traditional jhumkis. One of the things I often do is wear Punjabi jutti with denims. They look so cool. I keep finding ways to flaunt Indian traditions even with western looks.
