Fuchsia, firozi, parrot green or deep purple—here is one man who doesn’t shy from donning any colour. What distinguishes Daler Mehndi from a sea of celebs though is that bright shining pagri adorned with pearls and stones that matches, well, his jewelled clothes!

The Ta Ra Ra Ra hitmaker has been adjudged as the most stylish man many times now, something that he takes with all due humility. But talk clothes, and he admits that he is one shopaholic and buys more than he can don ever.

Style for you

Sticking to one’s personality. I am not the one to run for labels or copy a trend. People have pointed out that styles worn by me have been copied by celebs like Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan ji. I like to put together my outfit piece by piece all by myself and I take great pride in it

I am my own designer

From the very beginning of the career till now, I have always taken a call on what to wear, when or how. No stylists for me, no diktats. I take out time to put together my daily wear to casual outings to stage shows or the red carpets looks.

I take my time

Delhi and Dubai top as my favourite shopping haunts. And, there are no fixed places. It takes hours and hours to find one right outfit. I don’t mind spending an entire day when I have to pick something for a special occasion. And, then I am a bulk shopper, just can’t stop at one!

My icon

Dev Anand Saheb – scarves and mufflers, and his puff – how he carried it, was ultimate.

Watch out for Rolex

The only accessory I swear by is a watch. I have been wearing a Rolex from 1996. I haven’t bought or even thought of buying any other brand but Rolex after my first stint with it.

Joy of giving

I admit I shop way too more than I need. But I am not a hoarder. I am pretty giving, sharing clothes that I couldn’t resist buying at the spur of the moment. I buy five or six jackets at a time or an equal number of sherwanis. But I also gift when I know the wearer is going to enjoy it. Most of the times, the tags are still intact.

I don’t spend on

Gadgets. I pretty well know these days the gadgets – phone, fit bands, ipads are an essential part of style statement. I cannot bring myself to spend moolah on stuff that I am anyway going to change shortly as better and more efficient versions hit the market.

My grooming tip

I don’t have much expenditure on grooming. I don’t even remember when I last went to a salon. To eat well and keep one’s thought clear, content and happy is the best grooming tip I swear by.
