Tell us the meaning of your name?
Subuhi means cold breeze of the morning. It’s an Arabic name. I was the first child of my parents and as per my mother I came into her life as a fresh flow of cool breeze and since she’s a writer too, she found the most unique name for me.
How did you start your career?
I did a show for Doordarshan in 1995 as a child model. I completed my 12th and got admission in Delhi University. In my very first year of graduation, I got an offer from a reality show for Bindass TV named Big Switch. After that, Splitsvilla happened and then I decided to move to Mumbai.
Tell us about your struggle.
When I moved to Mumbai, I didn’t know anybody and didn’t have a lot of money either. I got my mother’s credit card without telling her, but eventually, she found out and was angry but she has always been very supportive. Then I met a few people, started doing prints and then eventually got into TV. But, touchwood, I’ve always met supporting people and didn’t have to go through anything bad.
What kind of roles are you looking for?
My last show was Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hain. I didn’t want to do daily soaps at first but when they married me in the story of the show and character, I instantly fell in love with Poonam (my character). In future also, I’d love to do characters, which are real and relatable.
Are you open to doing Bigg Boss?
I’ve been a huge reality show fan and Bigg Boss is the biggest one. I would, of course, love to be a part of it. I am always myself and I have nothing to hide, so it’d be easier for me to survive there.
Your personal life made a lot of news. Comment.
“Que sera, sera”, whatever had to happen it happened. But I’m now completely focused on my career. I’m very positive and confident right now and I’ve no space for negativity in my life.
What is the philosophy of your life?
Live and let live. Another quote I live by is—it is nice to be important but it is more important to be nice.
Any new trend you’ve noticed in the TV industry.
Content variety has increased. A wide range of shows from mythology like Radha Krishna to Daayan to Yeh Ristha Kya Kehlata Hai are co-existing and have loyal audiences.
