She’ll always be the Kaliyon Ka Chaman girl! Even if the song was followed by constant endeavours comprising different characters, costume dramas, all the while changing gears and even colours. Nevertheless, Meghna Naidu is all set to surprise the audience, after a brief sabbatical. As the mysterious girl Chameli, a nagarvadhu who entertains people with her dance, on Big Magic’s ongoing television series Akbar Birbal.

She shares, “Costume dramas attract me a lot as they are larger-than-life. The costume, jewellery and get-up actually bestows a sense of royalty. Also when I was approached for the role of Chameli, it got me excited as I love doing comedies. The best element of Akbar Birbal is it’s a historic comedy, which makes it all the more unique.”

As the episode unfolds, a messenger comes to Akbar’s empire with a message about a serious threat. Akbar and Birbal become more conscious, as Akbar realises that his life is in danger. Next day, a breath-taking beauty named Chameli enters the kingdom and pleads in front of Akbar to give her work to entertain people as she has no livelihood. Mesmerised by her beauty, Akbar allows her to stay in his kingdom and amuse people with her dancing talent.

Strong desire

Credit it to the raunchy video or everlasting song, but like we said, she’ll always be the Kaliyon Ka Chaman girl. “Item songs nowadays have become such a trend that I wish I could do each and every one of them. Songs stay with you for long, one good song and people will remember it for the next 10 years.” She adds, “It has been 12 years since Kaliyon Ka Chaman hit the top charts and till date people remember that song.”

And a dream role would be something like Sridevi’s Sadma. “I would definitely like to do something like her character in the film. Also I would like to do more comedy films, as it’s very challenging to make people laugh nowadays.”

She adds, “I have just finished shooting for Kya Cool Hain Hum 3 and there is one Marathi movie with Om Puri in the pipeline.”

(To be telecast on June 15—16 and 28 at 9:00 pm on Big Magic)
