Triveni in collaboration with the Department of Culture Affairs, Chandigarh Administration presents Nupur-Jhankar, a scintillating jugalbandi of Kathak and Lavani by Aditi Bhagwat and Harshada Jambekar (Mumbai) on October 23.
Kathak is a North Indian classical dance form in which the pure dance sequence, the nritta is electrifying in its presentation of rhythmic wizardry, the expressional aspect, the abhinaya is poetry in action, graceful and beautiful.
Lavani is the dance and music of Marathi folk theatre. The dance tradition of Lavani takes a lot of its movements from Kathak, the tukras, tihais and chakkars.
Aditi and Harshada are accompanied by Smita Vetale, Vrushali Sawant, Manali Kulkarni, Tanuja Sarode and Vicky Thakur. Their presentation of this jugalbandi is on recorded music.
The jugalbandi will be in tarana, in a tabla/dholki duet in a thumri and baithakichi Lavani.
Nupur Jhankar will bring out the similarities and differences of the two dance forms. This brilliant merger will surely leave the audience spellbound.—TNS
At Tagore Theatre from 6.30 pm onwards on October 23
