Jasmine Singh
You’d expect Amritsar-based singer-lyricist Bir Singh to break into a religious song the moment you see him, but as he begins to croon a romantic track, Tu Te Main, in his mellifluous voice, you’d be all eyes and all ears.
Sensitive and free-spirited Bir doesn’t plan for the future. He dreamt of being a singer, and this is what he is living at the moment. The young mechanical engineer lets us into his world that isn’t bound to any religion, but to a goal, to a dream...a world that is limitless.
The story begins
Well, I made my debut with Speed Records with Tareyan Di Loye. It was during this time that Amrinder Gill noticed my work and later gave me a chance in Punjabi film Love Punjab, my debut as a lyricist. And now I am with Rhythm Boyz.
Singing or nothing
Honestly, I don’t want to think about what I would have been doing had I not being singing or writing. This is what I know and this is what I have been living for. I remember I was five year old when I got on the stage to sing and I was in grade 6th when I wrote for the first time. I had fought with my friend and I vented out everything in my writing!
Have to have appropriate tools
I am trained in folk, classical music and in writing poetry because I see these as tools, and unless you have proper tools how can you perform.
Writing... my style
There was a marked change in my writing after my mother left for her heavenly abode. Seeing life and emotions from such closeness does affect the way one thinks.
They can sing my song
When Amrinder bhaji sang Heeriye in Love Punjab, it was as if I was singing the song. And the other artiste who I think can do justice to my lyrics is Abeeda Parveen. I think the day I meet her, I will just lay my work in front of her to choose.
And so changed my life
The day I got a call from Kaaraj Gill bhaji, from zero to 100, that’s how that call from him changed my life.
A song waiting to be written
For a long time I have been writing something on spreading happiness.
I feel humbled
When someone tells me that they’ve come with their family to watch my concert, this is the most satisfying compliment.
Looks no bar
People expect me to sing a religious sing when they see me, but well, they are in for a surprise when they see me singing romantic songs.
Social media, sorry
I don’t understand what should I post, I don’t relate to the idea of posting personal information, what am I eating, which airplane did I board. I believe if my work is good, people will eventually find me.
Up next
I don’t have any target and neither do I have one now, I am on a journey.
The real Bir
The real Bir is sensitive and can cry easily. The real Bir is also free spirited and not slaved to any religion or thoughts.
