Punjabi actor Kuljinder Sidhu from Amritsar became famous when he fought tooth and nail for the release of his controversial film, Sadda Haq. The bold actor has always been open to experimentation, whether it is about his looks or his role. He doesn’t pick up a negative role. As his up and coming film Asees hits the theatres this week, the actor shares his take on the industry, and the cut-throat competition.
Films to me: Is the face of society, is the face of dreams, imagination, films are a face of change, a mirror to the past, recognition of achievements. Films complete Kuljinder Sidhu.
Punjabi film industry: Is growing yet stagnant at the same time. It has grown in terms of scripts and ideas, and stagnant in terms of professionalism.
Competition... Everything around has become a competition. To me, competition is disturbance, it only brings negativity. I can look up to someone, or say that I don’t want to be like someone, but I am not in any kind of competition.
If not an actor: I wanted to be journalist, so I did masters in mass communication and journalism but destiny had something else in store for me.
Inspired by: Aamir Khan and Daniel Day Lewis.
I want to work with: Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap.
My strength: Versatility, I can be anything
Tough call: I find romantic roles tough to perform.
Life changed forever: Life was never the same after my first film Sadda Haq.
