Motherhood:  All love begins and ends there... said Robert Browning. And, it’s not just love, there is care, concern, constant companionship  through the ups and downs of life. Some successful stars share about the bond this Mother’s day!

Total belief

It meant the world to Divya Dutta when her mum, Dr Nalini Dutta, backed her dream of becoming an actor. Although coming from a family of doctors, this single mother had faith in her girl’s dreams. “Not only did she get me necessities to begin this battle, but comforts – a house and a car and more,” recalls Divya.

In the initial period when she got disheartened that she was not getting good roles, her mother advised, ‘Take whatever you get and make it your own.” And that worked. People noticed Divya in Veer Zaara and Delhi 6, which led her to a stage when roles were being written with her in mind! “My best times were with her, whether travelling or being at home and singing,” shares the National Award winner.  “Not every girl gets best friend in her mom and that’s what I wanted to celebrate through my book Me and Ma.

High pitch

It took Taniya Bhatia, an international cricket player, almost a decade to be where she is today. And to say that her mother Sapna Bhatia has been through the grind as much as her is not an over-statement. “With my father posted out of station for most of these years, managing the three of us and running the house has been quite a task for her. However, there was not a single day when mum was not ferrying me to and fro from practice sessions,” shares the cricketer from the city.

Being a sportsperson comes with maddening schedules, early to late practices and specialised meals, but Taniya beams that her mother did it all. “Even today she is the first person I speak to at the start of the day, for I know all my day would be positive through her sheer love and blessings.”

Act of faith

Actress Prakruti Mishra’s  mother Krushnapriya had lots of dreams; she couldn’t pursue all of them but she made sure her daughter did. Right from her childhood, she would take Prakruti to every singing and dancing competition, and later beauty pageants. Today if she plays lead in ‘Bitti Business Wali’ or gets a special mention jury best actress 65th national award for Odia film “Hello Arsi", it’s her mother who counts it as ‘her’ achievement.

“My mom, a playback singer, has taught me to dedicate all my might towards work but also nurture relationships,” shares Prakruti.

Trendy and techno, this duo is video-calling each other most of the time. “I love reading her comments to Insta stories,” laughs Prakruti.

Best friends

Living largely in Amritsar, Bindu Khanna knows the exact time when her globetrotting son is up. This Michelin-starred chef makes a call to her the first thing when he wakes up. Whether it was Vikas Khanna’s idea to move to the US to try his luck or penning a book or taking initiative at Smile Foundation, his mum has been the soundboard he runs his ideas with.

Recently when he got to shooting ‘The Last Color’ – his first movie as a director, his mum kept him company on the ghats of Varanasi. “She is my best friend. I feel incredibly fortunate to have her steady support through the meandering paths of life,” shares this devoted, doting son whose social media pages have many pictures of the two. “I know my son is a perfectionist but more than that, he is so humane. No wonder success has landed at his feet; he is all the earning I have in life,” beams the proud mother.

Bull’s eye

International shooter Gauri Sheoran knows quite well how highs and lows are essential part of the career of a sportsman. Travelling extensively, representing India, Gauri feels fortunate that her mum Vimal Sheoran is always her guiding force.

“It takes a lot and is quite tiring for her,” shares Gauri, who is currently at International Shooting Competitions of Hanover, Germany with mum in tow! “I too went through a low phase but my mother stood by me,” says Gauri, who intends to pamper her mum this Mother’s Day by taking her to Amsterdam for a weekend getaway!
