Have it, flaunt it! Going by this mantra, those who have a passion for super-cars (and can afford it), have every reason to show it off. In this crazy world of high-performance machines, luxury cars can promise unmatched adrenaline rush.
Living in Punjab, we can’t miss the ever-so-often mention of these beauties in our Punjabi songs. The latest to have caught everyone’s fancy — Lamborghini — is not just the number riding on top in various chartbuster lists, but also a much-loved mean machine in the region. We find out what it is like to own one!
Speed thrills
Akash Singal, a businessman based in Ludhiana, has a Lamborghini Aventador since five years now. This car brings alive his love for speed and soon Akash plans to buy another Lamborghini! “This time I will buy Urus, as that’s the fastest car. Some call it impractical, but I feel there is no greater high than driving at unmatched speed.”Akash mostly drives his car at night due to the busy roads during the day.
This young boy also takes his car to Buddha Circuit, Delhi, to satiate his need for speed. He adds, “The paint of this car costs around Rs 12 lakh and regular water can dull its sheen, so we wash it only with filter water twice a week. The body cover is procured from Italy at a price of Rs 1 lakh. Every service would go up to Rs 2.5 to 3 lakh.”
Dream come true
When we are talking about the iconic sports car, how can the City Beautiful miss its date with the super-car? “It surely is a head-turner… feels great when people admire it. I roll down the glass and give them a thumbs-up. I always wanted this car and have worked really hard for it. Owning it is like a dream come true,” says Tejpreet Gill, proud owner of Lamborghini Aventador, a mid-engine sports car named after a fighting bull.
“Its maintenance is pretty expensive. I bought it last September. But I don’t take it out that frequently; just once a week,” quips the young businessman.
Mean machine
Roopa Pahwa, wife of Harcharan Singh, MD, Avon Ispat, Ludhiana, says the sound of the car gives her an adrenaline rush. “We end up waking our neighbourhood when we take the car out. It’s all to do with my son’s craze for a sports car.”
Her son, who is a businessman during the week, becomes a racer during the weekend. “He had a Ford Mustang and other cars too, but Lamborghini is his Sunday to Sunday car,” she says. Roopa shares that there is a whole lot of paraphernalia involved in maintaining these cars. “From having a special person every week to vacuum it to loading it in a truck to sending it to Delhi for servicing, it needs utmost care. When people especially come to take a peep at the car, I understand what my son finds in these mean machines,” she smiles.
Rewarding experience
Sharing the love for high-end luxury cars is Satyan Bhatia, chairman of IMC. For him, it’s Bentley that fits the bill. “I chose Bentley because my idea of fun is to have my family with me. Lamborghini is a great option, but it’s a two-seater. During the day, mine is a chauffer-driven car to work and in the evenings I drive it myself. Sadly, the city roads aren’t the platform for these cars, but that’s where the job of long drives begins.”
Satyan gifted himself Bentley for doing well in business and says the feeling is unparalleled to anything ever. “It feels awesome to have reached a point where I could give myself such a gift. I love its hand-crafted interiors, handmade leather seats.”
