The real story of Laxmi Agarwal, an acid attack survivor, will be put on the big screen by none other than Meghna Gulzar. After success with movies like Filhaal and Talvar, Meghna, daughter of Gulzar, renowned poet and lyricist and actress Rakhee, will start working on her new film Chhapaak (splash) with Deepika Padukone in March. “Acid attacks have hurt my feelings, especially of Laxmi, who stood up again to speak about the rights of acid attack survivors,” Meghna shared at the Jaipur Literature Festival, which began on Thursday.

“The way the society treats such victims, difficulties she used to face, and loopholes in the system to provide her compensation, she shared it all,” Meghna added. When asked about the mode of her writing stories, she said, “There is no one method; it depends on the content. The perspective changes; when you have to write a film based on a true incident, what you have to do is get your facts in place, try and weave it into a narrative that is engaging for the audience. In fiction, you are starting from imagination and little fabrication”.
