Urban planning
Jasmine Singh
It is partly his grey eyes, and partly the newness he brings to his songs, which make Punjabi singer Kulwinder Billa stand apart from the rest of the singers. His song Angreji Wali Madam became a chartbuster within days of its release and now the singer is ready with yet another dancing number Mere Yaar.
Mere Yaar, what’s the genre?
This is a total dance track featuring actress Yuvika Chaudhary. Video director Arvindr Khaira has shot the song and Shivjot has written it. Mere Yaar is released by White Hill Music. I believe in experimenting with new genres and styles, this is family urban song which both married and bachelors will be able to relate to.
Define urban
Urban for me is not just people living in Delhi or Mumbai, urban is the way of thinking. When I say that Mere Yaar or my up and coming track is urban, I mean that I have used some English words in it and it isn’t chaste Punjabi because otherwise, outside Punjab, people would have problem understanding these songs.
Where’s the market?
I feel my fans in Punjab have accepted me. I have also been performing in Delhi. Now, I want to try Mumbai as well.
And the inspiration comes from...
One and only Gurdas Maan. Look at how people of all age groups enjoy his songs! I also believe in making family kind of songs and Gurdas Maan inspires me to do that.
Favourite co-actress
I have worked with Wamiqa Gabbi, and in Mere Yaar, it’s Yuvika Chaudhary. All of them are fine co-stars. In fact, my up and coming Punjabi film as lead actor in Parauna is also with Wamiqa Gabbi.
Singer-actor or actor-singer?
I am a singer who will be acting on silver screen. You will see me in Punjabi film Subedar Joginder Singh first along with Gippy Grewal who plays Subedar Joginder Singh in the film and then Parauna. Let’s see how all this goes.
One wish you have...
I have shot my songs in India, Punjab, Canada, Mumbai but I wish to shoot one song in the most beautiful place, Venice.
What a chemistry
I feel it is important for any singer to have a good chemistry with the video director, because it is only the video director who can take out the best from the singer.
