Singer-actress Kelly Rowland once famously admitted to having a simple quirk. “The only thing I really love is Fiji water. That’s like the only crazy request — I don’t like any other water.” If they didn’t have idiosyncrasies, who’d call them celebrities!
From ridiculous backstage requests to downright outrageous demands, that go onto show that those in the limelight are nothing like us. Starting with any diva’s handy arm candy—bottle of favourite mineral water. Like Madonna and her holy water Kabbalah, very pure water produced by H20. Jennifer Aniston prefers Smartwater (no Ethos, Dasani or even Evian please). Water—is not just all that simple, courtesy celebrities.
Infused waters
And you had only heard of spring water, river water and so on and so forth! Infused bottled water (with trace minerals and electrolytes and anti-oxidants and what not!) finds favour with the who’s who of Hollywood. Under the bracket falls Smartwater, the vapour distilled water which is first pulled from the sky and then infused with electrolytes for taste. If spring water comes from the humble earth, this one comes from the sky! Jennifer Aniston endorses the brand and admittedly drinks 100 ounces of it everyday.
Then there’s Dasani, purified water, remineralised with magnesium sulfate, potassium chloride, and salt…Nicki Minaj can’t do without 24 bottles of Dasani (12 at room temperature and 12 on ice, thank you!)
Artesian, alkaline water
Starting with the very famous Fiji Natural Artesian Water, which is believed to originate from the tropical rainfall on an island in Fiji, naturally filtered through volcanic rock. Along the way it is enriched with trace minerals and all that the best of geology has to offer.
As for the alkaline water, it has been ionised to increase its Ph to somewhere between 8 and 10. While some might discredit the health benefits of alkaline water, it’s not a bad idea for those having trouble with keeping their body alkaline due to a bad lifestyles.
Mansi Chatrath, Chandigarh-based nutritionist and director Natural Healthcare Clinic, takes care of any concerns about ordinary water. “Water by itself does not contain any nutrition, minerals or anything. If at all it does, then by the time it reaches us, it’s usually stripped of all that. The sole purpose of water is rehydration. So in its most ideal state too, water can contain nothing.” She adds, “The best way to have water is where it has been boiled for 20 minutes and then cooled, and kept in an earthen pot. If you want extra, add a few green tea leaves in boiled water and then strain. This way the whole family can have green tea without its taste.”
Carbonated, but naturally
It’s a known fact that when former Vice President traveled with his wife, he needed his bubble water in place. Preferably, Perrier or Calistoga. Some might accuse Perrier Sparkling Natural Mineral Water, and several other carbonated brands of lab created flavour, but sparkling water is just a little more…well bubbly. Isn’t regular flat water a little bourgeoisie?
All that’s dark, is clear
Nearly three years back, the fashion world suddenly woke up to a sudden keenness on this black water (yes as black as a diet coke). A bottle of Blk, was the next best accessory — the alkaline fulvic trace mineral infused water, which originates from a spring in Canada. If a chocolate brand were to have ‘Enjoy the Darkside’ as its tagline, we’d still understand. But if a brand of bottled water was out to sell its “murky water”, that’s scary! “It’s the naturally infused black fulvic minerals that give water its black colour. It’s an alkaline water with Ph level between 8 to 9 and contains 77 trace minerals and electrolytes, which ensure overall wellness of the body,” assures Dikshit Jhanb, director, Blk. India. Celebrity takers? Well, Allessandra Ambrosio and Kendall Jenner!
