Spare a smile for the twanti-toooo-year-old bhua of Comedy Nights with Kapil, while she floors you with her captivating vivaciousness quoted with her innocuous sense of humour. While Upasana Singh engages in a candid conversation with The Tribune Life+Style, she elaborates on her up coming projects and reasons her special liking for comedy as she tells us about her brand new show, Total Nadaniyaan, where she will be seen in a whole new look!’
The third instalment of Big Magic’s Uff! Yeh Nadaniyaan, which has taken a time leap with a new season, Total Nadaniyaan, starting today, will have Upasana Singh essay the role of an urban mother-in-law. Talking about the show and her role, Upasana shares, “Most of the television shows stereotype mothers-in-law as a vicious woman draped in six yards of kanjeevaram saree and huge round bindis. However, in Total Nadaniyaan, I will be playing the role of a rather urban and more real mother- in- law,” she says. While confirming that the show has an element of comedy, the extension of which also reflects in her character, she shares that she enjoys playing the role of a mother-in-law, who lives in her fool’s paradise and that it’s quite entertaining for her to play that role too. “I get my quirks out of comedy and since the script of the show demanded of me to quote my foolishness and stupidity with heavy folds of confidence and self assurance, it makes a great peg for the whole show,” she shares, while telling us a little about the story of the show also. “So, now that my son has married a woman from Canada and that we go to live with her, I, as her mother-in-law, make incredibly hilarious efforts to masquerade my stupidities,” she adds.
Meanwhile, Upasana, who has experimented with several roles in her acting career from playing a vamp in Bani-Ishq Da Kalma to your favourite bhua in Comedy Nights with Kapil, shares that she loves being versatile, but her favourite genre is comedy. “I have done several roles, because coming form a theatre background, I live experimenting and getting into the skin of several characters, for that satisfies my creativity, but I love doing comedy. There is so much stress in the world these days and I think there’s nothing better than putting a smile on a sad face,” she smiles.
While talking about her future projects, Upasana shares that besides two Punjabi films, 22 G Tussi Great Ho and Asi Pendu nai Dila de Maarre that will be released soon, she is currently shooting for a couple of Bollywood films. “I am shooting for Chalk and Duster, which is a film based on teachers and it will feature Juhi Chawla and Shabana Azmi too. Also, I am doing another film called Chorbaazari and Wedding Pulao,” she signs off.
