Catching up with Punjabi pop
Bhavya Chhabra
The first peppy and rhythmic number from Kangana Ranaut and Rajkumar Rao’s upcoming film Judgmental Hai Kya, titled The Wakhra Swag, was revealed recently on July 8. When the song was shared online, the film’s producer Ekta Kapoor dropped on Instagram, “Wakhra Swag is here. Turn up the volume they are here to drop the SWAG! #TheWakhraSwagOutNow.” As Bollywood can never get enough of remixes, the song is a remake version of Badshah and Navv Inder’s hit 2015 single Wakhra Swag.
The song, like the original, has been performed by Navv Inder, while Lisa Mishra along with American-Indian rapper Raja Kumari have also lent their vocals to the track. The track starts with a reference to designers like Gucci and Armani being equated to Wakhra Swag with rap and Punjabi pop beats thrown in galore.
Set in a night club they match steps with the beats of the song. The duo tries to overpower each other in some strange competition between them. Towards the end, while Rajkummar Rao is left only with his shirt on, Kangana walks the ramp in a queen avatar with paparazzi clicking her endlessly. The song ends with the lead pair posing for the camera as they keep each other at knifepoint.
The remake has been composed by Tanishk Bagchi and Bosco Martis, who also choreographed Kangana and Rajkummar in the music video. Kangana is seen looking like a Queen as she sports a regal crown and a heavily adorned glittery bodysuit teamed up with a faux-fur jacket, Rajkummar Rao also looks super-cool in an all-black avatar while being tethered to a chair.
Also, Kangana amazes us with her funky, punk look while Rajkummar carries an urbane jatt appearance.
Enjoy the beats
The charisma, swag and style are unmissable in the song. I always enjoy its beats and specifically, the chemistry of the duo who is seen together first time after Queen. People in gym really like the song and get motivated with its beats. But when I compare it, I think the original version is better.

Favourite at the moment
I like the uniqueness in the song. Ekta Kapoor rightly said that they have hit the swag button with this one. No doubt Kangana is looking gorgeous and Rajkumar Rao too fits in well. I listen to the song while doing the household work.

Quite disappointed
I personally do not like the recreated versions. Don’t know why Bollywood does not come up with their own creativity. Each and every song has its uniqueness and specialty but it is ruined now. Every other day they are spoiling the authenticity of Punjabi music.
