USA-based Gurbaksh Singh Chahal, who is a philanthropist and internet entrepreneur, has a vision for his home state Punjab, and eventually his country.

Gurbaksh says, “I come to Punjab with an ambitious project to help the state and usher an economic revival. I want to create 1 million tech jobs by 2030 in the state.”

He announced his project on LinkedIn and soon local entrepreneurs as well as people from Delhi and Mumbai rounded up to be a part of his project. Gurbaksh is overwhelmed by the response he is getting. He says, “You see we have everything here in Punjab—talent, the drive to be at the top and access to education. The only thing that is lacking is the right direction. I intend to provide that with my project.”

Gurbaksh is a highly accomplished entrepreneur. He has founded two internet advertising companies, ClickAgents and BlueLithium. He is also the founder of RadiumOne and Gravity4, online advertising technology companies. A talk at Indian School of Business-Mohali by Gurbaksh, which was organised in association with TiE and Startup Punjab, addressed over 200 young aspiring entrepreneurs, students and businessmen.

So, he must be making his parents proud with all his initiatives. He quips, “Like typical Punjabi parents, they are still not happy.” Maybe because they want their 37-year-old bachelor son to get married. He replies, “I will marry once Salman Khan marries.”
