Get ‘booked’
One of region’s premier celebration of writers, readers and the written world, Literati 2019, shall be opening on November 23, at its regular pristine lawns of the Lake Club on the banks of Sukhna.
The two-day festival organised by Chandigarh Literary Society (CLS) shall open with the inaugural keynote by renowned economist and author, Padamshree S Bibek Debroy, chairman of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council. The varied sessions shall satiate every section including children for whom special writing workshops with established authors have been planned. Besides the theme Bollywood, there would be sessions by eminent authors in poetry, mythology in English, Hindi, Panjabi and Urdu.
Name game
London-based English poet, Sudeep Sen, whose works have been translated in many languages around the world, shall share the panel with Sumita Misra on That Elusie Poetic Flavour. You could get to meet the engineer, innovator and educator who inspired Aamir Khan’s character in 3 Idiots , Sonam Wangchuk who would be another highlight at Literati on the first day afternoon. Civil servant Rajshekhar Vundru will speak about his book on Dr BR Ambedkar. Panjabi session on revival of the legendary Panjabi movie Chann Pardesi shall feature Raj Babbar, Subhash Sehgal, JS Cheema, Manmohan Singh, Chitratha Singh. Vineet Bajpai and Deep Haldar would touch upon history and mythology session with another popular writer Ravinder Singh and Sunanda Mehta, author of The Mystery of Sunanda Pushakar’s Life and Death shall hold the stage on the second day.
Learn on the go
Nupur Sandhu, Mukul Kumar, Ruby Gupta and Simran Singh would feature on the Passion through the Ages session. Aabid Surti, legendary writer of children literature, would conduct children’s workshop on second day morning and would also be a part of the session Keep that Innocence along with Katie Bagli and Dr Samir Parikh. The Saturday evening shall have Ghazal Ke Saaz Uthao session with masters of poetry like Gyan Prakash, Mamta Kiran, Rajinder Toki, Nafas, Trilochan, Ajit Langen with Madhav Kaushik as the moderator.
On this occasion several authors shall unveil their writings at the book launches on both the days including that of Lippi Parida, Sanjay and Priya Tandon, Supreet Dhiman, and Praveen Kaushik. CLS Chairperson Dr Sumita Misra says, “Literati has been growing in scale and substance every year with our endeavour to provide literature lovers of the region with the best author sessions and interactions.”
