Amazon Prime Original’s reality show The Remix, which paired DJs and singers to compete in the ultimate music spin-off challenge ended on May 4 with singer-songwriter Rashmeet Kaur and DJ Su Real emerging winners and pocketing Rs 50 lakhs. For 24-year-old Rashmeet, the experience was awesome. “It was unlike any other show. We presented Bollywood songs in a whole new avatar. It wasn’t just about singing a song. We tweaked the melody, added trap; a lot of reshuffling and remixing of the songs was involved in this show. My skills, both as a singer and performer were put to test and I feel I’ve grown in these three months of participating in The Remix,” says a happy Rashmeet.
Space to experiment
According to her, The Remix has revolutionised the concept of music reality shows in India. “I’ve participated in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2012 and Asia’s Singing Superstar 2015 and was one of the top six contestants. But I feel in this show we had the space to experiment. Each team brought a flavour to every track they played; some of us even added English lyrics to the songs,” she tells.
Notably, the contestants explored different themes like ambient sounds, retro remixes, live instrumentation, global beats and much more. The talent was judged by well-known names in the music industry, including singer Sunidhi Chauhan, music composer Amit Trivedi and king of the DJ console Nucleya.
