From ploughing the fields to wielding the pen, a farmer’s son and senior journalist Kamaljit Singh Banwait has come a long way by producing as many as four books.
Renowned Punjabi writer Surjit Pattar
released the fourth book, titled MLA Nahin, Dakiya in Chandigarh today. The editor of the Punjabi Tribune, S S Tej was the guest of honour.
The book is a collection of 30 short stories and middle pieces. The book talks about the current political and social situation of Punjab. Some stories revolve around family issues and office politics as well as his satire on some senior journalists, politicians and the bureaucrats.
The main story is about the pitiable condition of the MLAs in the current regime. Some MLAs confided in him that they were not lawmakers, just postmen, who were just tailing letters of the public to the ministers and returning with the response.
Shiromani Patarkar awardee Kamaljit Singh Banwait’s experience in journalism spans over three decades out of which the last 25 years have been dedicated to Punjabi Tribune. Known for his investigative stories, he has been writing since his college days. He hopes that with this book, he will embark on a new journey; that of a successful author.—TNS
