The chocolate boy Jassi Gill is a livewire, while the ever so warm Babbal Rai grows on you subtly. And when you join the two together, it is nothing short of facing a hurricane. The two are close friends, despite their busy schedules spend time together talking about work, sports and, ‘everything under the sun,” they echo.

Dressed immaculately, the two singer actors arrive for the launch of their single track, Youngster Returns.

Released by Speed Records, the single has been written by Happy Raikoti, composed by Jatinder Shah and the video has been directed by Sukh Sanghera. Jassi and Babbal do most of the live shows together and now this track brings them officially together on stage.

Despite the word competition looming all over, the two have taken everything in their stride, opening about each other objectively. They have lots to share.

Take one

It is a known that Jassi Gill and Babbal Rai do maximum live shows together, despite each having his own tracks. Says Jassi, who is busy shooting for his next Punjabi film with Gauhar Khan, “Our fans and the audience have always appreciated our combo, and often they would request us for a track sung by us together, so Gangster Returns is the answer,” looking at Babbal Rai, who looks deep in thought.

“This track has been shot in LA by just two people on the crew. We weren’t sure how the track would look, but the response of the teaser on Youtube has been amazing. We play gangsters based in LA, and I am sure, the track will be loved by one and all.”

Beyond work

Babbal and Jassi Gill have known each other for almost two years now, but they are a hand-in-glove team, “We are partners in crime, the gangsters,” they laugh with the hi-fives flying in the air.

There are a couple of things that figure on their list. They read the must dos on that list together, “We either play cricket with friends, shop or even watch a film, if time permits. But somehow, invariably, the discussion moves towards work and we end up discussing our projects.”

That’s what friends are for…

The two singer-actors made their debut in Punjabi film Mr and Mrs 420. With all the talk of professionalism, the two are each other’s best critics. “Jassi is absolutely candid, he never minces his words. Whether I like it or not, he will tell me if he does not like something,” Babbal talks about Jassi, and the latter swears on Babbal’s objectivity. “I sometimes react to a situation immediately, but if it is discussed with Babbal, he takes time and comes with an absolute objective viewpoint, and I trust him completely.”

Stage power

Babbal has a line-up of hit tracks, and so does Jassi but how diligently they handle a live show together is a delight. “We sing each other’s tracks, we both have a different voice quality, so people like it when I sing Babbal’s songs and he sings mine,” Jassi looks at Babbal, who nods.
