Karnal, December 25
The local Municipal Corporation (MC) is now taking the services of a cleanliness mascot to spread awareness in the city.
The mascot is visiting public places, including hospitals, parks, bus stand, railway station, taxi stands, main roads and streets, sectors and markets to educate people about sanitation.
The authorities claimed that the initiative would help in getting a good rank for the city which has already been selected as Smart City. Last year, Karnal had secured a special award for being the cleanest city in North India in the Swachh Survekshan.
“The mascot was launched last week and it has been educating people about making the city clean. We have also started a jingle song to promote cleanliness. This song attracts the masses, particularly the youth and schoolchildren, about maintaining cleanliness,” said Priyanka Soni, Commissioner, MC.
Apart from this, the MC has also formed a cleanliness brigade with 32 employees and it has also started working on complaints being raised by residents on the Swachhta App of the Union Government. “We have also started night sweeping in the city,” she added.
Karnal has secured a place in top 20 cities of the country in resolving complaints being uploaded on the Swachhata App where 21,274 complaints had been filed so far. Of the total complaints, 21,019 had been resolved in a specified period, she said, and added that 183 complaints were found to be false.
“We are hopeful to secure a place in top 10 cities of the country in resolving the complaints in coming days,” said Renu Bala Gupta, Mayor.
