1 lakh packets of relief material sent to Kerala

The Punjab Government on Saturday dispatched trucks carrying 1 lakh packets of relief material to the flood-hit people of Kerala from the city. The trucks were flagged off by Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu and Member of Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu from Guru Nanak Stadium.
Ashu and Bittu said the relief material comprised sugar, tea, rusk, biscuits, powdered milk, water bottles, etc. To make sure the relief material reaches Kerala soon, it has been sent by air from Halwara Air Force Station.
They said the Punjab Government was standing rock solid with the people of Kerala in this hour of crisis. In the coming days, more relief material would be dispatched from other districts as well, they added.
Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had announced a grant of Rs 10 crore, of which Rs 5 crore would be deposited in Chief Minister Relief Fund and relief material worth Rs 5 crore would be sent to Kerala.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were MLAs Surinder Dawar and Sanjay Talwar, Ludhiana Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu and officials from the District.
Relief also to be sent from other districts
Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu and Member of Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu said in the coming days, more relief material would be dispatched from other districts of Punjab as well.
