Students studying in different schools affiliated to the PSEB brought laurels to the city by claiming top positions in Class XII examinations, the result of which was declared on Saturday. As many as 108 students from Ludhiana district, maximum from any district, figured in the merit list of 319 students. Two other districts — Hoshiarpur (with 26 students) and Sri Mukatsar Sahib (with 26 students) — stood second in the merit list.
According to the pass percentage list, the overall position of Ludhiana district is seventh. A total of 29,679 students of Ludhiana district appeared in the examination this year. Of them, 26,957 students passed the exam. The pass percentage has increased by around 12 per cent this year as compared to last year. In 2019, the pass percentage was 90.83 in the district, while it was nearly 78.5 in 2018.
Four of five toppers from Ludhiana district are girls. Moreover, 69 of 108 students in merit list are girls as per the information. Ravjeet Kaur of Teja Singh Sutantar Memorial Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana, came first and Amanpreet Kaur of the same school bagged the third position in commerce stream (sports) in the state.
In academics, Sarvjot Singh Bansal of Shalimar Model Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana, came first in commerce stream in the state. Loveleen Verma of RS Model Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana, bagged the second position in science stream and Muskan of the same school bagged the third position in humanities in the state.
As soon as the results were announced, students and their parents started gathering at schools. Commerce topper Sarvjot Singh Bansal was given a warm welcome at Shalimar Model Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana.
Toppers including Loveleen and Muskan were seen dancing with their teachers, parents and other students at RS Model Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana. Toppers were also welcomed at Teja Singh Sutantar Memorial Senior Secondary School. Besides, students and their parents were seen distributing sweets among the school staff.
As many as 31 students of Teja Singh Sutantar Memorial Senior Secondary School Shimlapuri, Ludhiana, secured positions in the merit list, while there were 29 students of RS Model Senior Secondary School Shastri Nagar in the merit list.
Celebrations on...
There was an atmosphere of jubilation and celebration in the schools where students grabbed top positions.
Top-two positions in commerce stream were grabbed by Ludhiana students. Sarvjot Singh Bansal, a student of Shalimar Model Senior Secondary School, Guru Angad Colony, Ludhiana, secured the first position in the state in commerce stream in academics category. Sarvjot scored 445/450 (98.89 per cent) marks to claim top position in the state. Son of Heera Singh, who works at a private company, and Manjeet Kaur, who is a schoolteacher, Sarvjot aims to become a successful businessman in future. He attributed his success to his schoolteachers and parents, who always motivated him to work hard.
Besides Sarvjot, another Ludhiana student Ravjeet Kaur also bagged the first position in the state in commerce stream. Ravjeet, a student of Teja Singh Sutantar Memorial Senior Secondary School, Shimlapuri, scored 100 per cent marks to stand first in the state in commerce stream in sports category. Daughter of a shopkeeper, Ravjeet wants to become a banker. Ravjeet said she took no tuitions and studied herself for 5-6 hours every day to become successful.
Amanpreet Kaur, another student of Teja Singh Sutantar Memorial Senior Secondary School, Shimlapuri, scored 445/450 (98.89 per cent) marks to secure the third position in the state in commerce stream in sports category.
Loveleen Verma of RS Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, secured second position in the state in science stream by scoring 444/450 (98.67 per cent) marks. Muskan, another student of RS Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, scored 443/450 (98.44 per cent) marks to claim the third position in the state in humanities stream. The overall pass percentage of Ludhiana district remained 90.83 with 26,957 students passing the exam out of 29,679.
Interestingly, students studying in rural areas performed better than those in urban areas. The pass percentage of girls from rural areas remained 91.31 per cent as compared to girls from urban areas, whose pass percentage remained 90.33. Similarly, the pass percentage of boys from rural areas was better than those from urban areas. The pass percentage of boys from rural areas remained 83.7, while that of boys from urban areas was recorded at 81.65.
