Ludhiana, November 19

The Ladhowal police have registered an FIR against more than 12 persons who blocked Hambran Road and misbehaved with the police during their protest over the death of a minor boy.

A case under section 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 283 (Danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint), 149 (Every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the IPC has been registered against the protesters, including Sukhdev Singh of Bhundri village, Sukhwinder Singh of Hambran, Major Singh of Bhundri, Chiman Singh of Bhundri, Jasmeet Singh of Suraj Nagar, Rajwinder Singh of Bathinda, Gurdeep Singh of Mundian Kalan, Jagdish Singh of EWS Colony, Gurvinder Singh of Patiala and Surinder Yadav of Shakti Nagar.

The police said the protesters had put the child’s body on the road and blocked the highway which was illegal. The officials had tried to pacify the protesters but they rather tried to attack the police.

Lovkush (15), son of Jugal Rajwar, a migrant from Thasamnava village in Hussainabad Pulma district of Jharkhand, died after allegedly being beaten up by labour contractor Raghbir Singh. The police had booked the contractor under Section 304 of the IPC and Sections 75/79 of the Juvenile Justice Act. He was yet to be arrested.

Yesterday, the police resorted to mild lathi-charge to disperse the protesters.
