150 take part in business seminar

Ludhiana: Postgraduate department of Commerce, Khalsa College for Women, organised an awareness programme on management of family business by RC Chopra former director, Ministry of MSME, Government of India. As many as 150 students participated in the seminar. He discussed the role of female entrepreneurs in promotion, development and sustainability of family-owned business enterprises. He made clear the concept of family business and the contribution and mentorship of seniors in successful running of female-oriented family businesses.

Vigilance Awareness Week observed

The social science club of BCM College observed Vigilance Awareness Week on the theme ‘Integrity-A way of life’. Students and faculty pledged to refrain from corrupt practices and follow the path of righteousness. Essay-writing, slogan-writing and poster-making competitions were organised on the theme of integrity.

Students take lessons in integrity

The Government College for Girls observed Vigilance Awareness Week to educate students and inculcate in them core values of integrity, equality and justice. Various competitions such as essay writing, poem recitation and slogan writing were organised. As per the directions given by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVS) and Panjab University, Chandigarh, the initiative looked forward to a transparent and corruption-free India by enlightening its youth.

Punjab day celebrations

DD Jain College of Education celebrated Punjab Day with great fervour. A special assembly was conducted by students and teachers, in which they spoke about the importance of Punjab. A detailed history of the state was traced right from the medieval period. A tribute was also paid to the great Gurus, saints, sufis, poets and freedom fighters of Punjab. Students took a pledge to make Punjab clean and free from evils of drugs and pollution. The programme concluded with the National Anthem.

Campaign against single-use plastic

An awareness campaign against single-use plastic was organised by the Municipal Corporation (zone A) at Kamla Lohtia SD College to generate awareness and sensitise students to the harmful effects of single-use plastic. Sham Lal, sanitary inspector, MC, and Ishwar Chander Shahi, community facilitator, apprised students about health and environmental risks associated with the use of single-use plastic and thermocol. They motivated students to pledge to shun away the use of plastic and make their surroundings plastic-free zones. They also talked about making compost pits to dump biodegradable waste and segregate the bins for wet and dry garbage. Principal Mukesh Kumar Mahajan stated that the college had already initiated a campaign regarding single-use plastic and would continue with their endeavours for the well-being of human health, society and the nation.

Paper-reading contest

Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GGNIMT) and Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Vocational Studies (GGNIVS), in association with Punjab and Sind Bank, organised a paper-reading contest on “Vigilance : Key to good governance ” as a part of  the Vigilance Awareness Week celebrations. Rashmita Kwatra , zonal manager, Punjab and Sind Bank, was the chief guest. Raspreet Kaur, branch manager, Punjab and Sind Bank, GGN Khalsa College branch, motivated the youth to understand their responsibilities and made them pledge to abide by the laws. Principal Harpreet Singh said firm steps were needed to curb the menace of corruption. The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony. 

Session on ‘Know your rights’

CT University (CTU), under the aegis of the Centre for Women Empowerment and Leadership (CWELD), organised a session on ‘Know your rights’ by Avni Bhatia from ITC Vivel. Avni is a social enthusiast and passionate believer of human and animal rights. The session was based on basic human rights awareness among young students. She elaborated how the youth were unaware of their strength.  Avni said: “The need is not just to safeguard women but also men. If we talk about a man harassing woman, that matter becomes sensitive, whereas, if we imagine a man being harassed by a woman, we make fun of it and let go.” She also shared stories and real life examples of people fighting for human rights. Sukhminder Singh Grewal, director, students’ affair, CTU, said: “Youngsters need to know their basic rights as they are the ones who can fight for society. They are smart, intelligent and fighters. Matters related to women are important to address but we must equally fight for harassment against men.” TNS
