2,198 cases settled in Lok Adalat

The National Lok Adalat on Saturday settled 2,198 cases out of 4,809 placed before different benches of the Lok Adalat and passed awards amounting to Rs 36,70,97,558.

The Lok Adalat benches were seen struggling in settling matrimonial disputes between couples to save the institution of family. A large number of matrimonial matters were listed on Saturday.

District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) Sessions Judge-cum-chairman Gurbir Singh accompanied by DLSA CJM-cum-Secretary Dr Gurpreet Karu inspected the functioning of different benches of the Lok Adalat. They motivated the people for resolving their disputes amicably, instead of indulging in protracted expensive litigation.

Additional District & Sessions Judge Arunvir Vashisht, ADJ Anjana, ADJ TTS Bindra, ADJ Sanjeeta, Industrial Tribunal presiding officer ADJ Mandeep Kaur Bedi, ACJM-cum-Civil Judge (Sr Division) Vikrant Kumar, Judicial Magistrate Pavleen Singh, Judicial Magistrate Bhupinder Mittal, JMIC Rajinder Singh Teji JMIC Devnoor Singh, JMIC Puneet Mohinia, JMIC Jaibir Singh, JMIC Vijay Kumar, JMIC Manpreet Kaur, JMIC Indu Bala, JMIC Navreet Kaur and JMIC Ankita Mittal headed different benches of the Lok Adalat. Lok Adalat members RD Chabbra, Professor RK Jain and Anu Beri played active role in the Lok Adalat.

Sessions Judge Gurbir Singh said people could approach the DLSA or the courts concerned for the settlement of cases through the Lok Adalats. He also said the decision of the Lok Adalat was final, which could not be challenged further. It helped in saving time and money of the people, besides promoting harmony in society, he added.

At Khanna, Sub-Divisional JMIC Shaminderpal Singh, JMIC Shairal Sohi and JMIC Shivani Sangar heard litigants.

At Samrala, JMIC Riffi Bhatti and JMIC Harsimranjit Kaur at Payal headed the Lok Adalat benches.

CJM Dr Gurpreet Kaur said the next National Lok Adalat would be organised on December 8.
