The Sahnewal police have booked two persons, including a woman, for allegedly duping Rs3 lakh from a Ludhiana-based youth on the pretext of sending him abroad.
The accused have been identified as Dilpreet Singh and Kulwinder Kaur, both the residents of Lakhowal village. Both are absconding and the police have been searching for them.
In his complaint to the police, victim, Amit Bhopal, a resident of Kailash Nagar, Ludhiana, told the police that he wanted to go abroad. According to Amit, few months ago he met of Dilpreet Singh and Kulwinder Kaur of Lakhowal village who ran a travel agency.
“When I told them about my aspiration to go abroad they promised me to send me to New Zealand but demanded Rs5 lakh in lieu of sending me abroad. I paid 3 lakh rupees cash and some gold ornaments to get visa,” said Amit.
According to Amit, when the duo failed to send him abroad he asked them to return his money but they refused to return the money. Following this the victim approached the police.
Confirming the development, Investigating Officer, ASI Jasvir Singh, said, the police have registered a case under sections 406, 420 and 34 of Indian Penal Code against both the accused. “The police registered the case after verifying the claims made by the victim. Both the accused have been absconding and the police have been searching for them”, said ASI Jasvir Singh.
