Ludhiana, November 21
The Excise and Taxation Department on Wednesday seized a huge stock of imported liquor from a house at Khanpur village in Ludhiana district.
Dr Harsimrat Kaur Grewal, ETO, accompanied by excise inspectors Hardeep Singh, Varinder Singh, Gopal Sharma and Karamjit, raided the house and seized 275 cases, containing around 3,300 bottles of liquor. A police team accompanied the excise officials.
The owner of the house, Jatinder Singh, alias Kaka, has absconded. The liquor smuggled in the city is sold at rates cheaper than those charged by vends. An official of the department said a majority of raids were conducted in collaboration with the police. However, in this case, all vital information remained with the department officials only.
