Jail officials said mobile phones were recovered from the belongings of the accused. A fresh case has been registered against them. TNS

Cop booked for fraud

Ludhiana: The Salem Tabri police have booked a head constable of Police Academy, Phillaur, on the charges of duping a resident of Rs 1.80 lakh on the pretext of arranging the acquittal of a minor boy in a murder case. Complainant Jagdish Lal of Rahon Road told the police that his son Karan Kumar was facing a case registered against him at the Salem Tabri police station in 2015. Since his son was a juvenile, he was sent to the juvenile home. The accused policeman had promised to arrange the acquittal of his son and in lieu, he took Rs 1.80 lakh, but he failed to fulfil his promise. A case under Section 420 of the IPC has been registered. Petrol pump worker looted

Ludhiana: Miscreants came on a bike and in car and looted a petrol pump employee of Rs 17,000 and a mobile phone at SKG Auto Fuel Petrol Pump near PAU on Monday night. Petrol pump employee Sanjiv Kumar said around 11 pm, when he closed the petrol pump, a youth came on a bike and asked for fuel. When he told the youth that the pump was closed, the latter turned furious and called his aides. In no time, over a dozen persons on four motorcycles, two scooters and a Creta car reached the spot and attacked him, the employee alleged. They then snatched Rs 17,000 sale money and a mobile phone and fled. Police said some of the suspects captured in CCTV footage were identified and they would be arrested soon. TNS
