3 get lifer for killing landlord’s sister

The Court of Additional Sessions Judge KK Kareer has convicted Mohammad Zohar, Pappu Ram and Balbir Singh of EWS Colony of sexually assaulting and killing the sister of their landlord. They have been sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment.

A case was registered on April 27, 2016, following a statement of the victim’s brother Ramesh Kumar, a resident of EWS Colony, Ludhiana.

The complainant had stated that he had rented out a few rooms of his house. His sister Rita Devi, aged about 27 years, resided with them. She was suffering from tuberculosis due to which her in-laws had left her at her parents’ house where she was getting treatment also.

On April 26, 2016, they all went to sleep after taking meals. His parents had gone to attend a wedding. Around 2 am, he heard the cries of his sister. When he went upstairs, he saw that the accused were trying to rape his sister on the third floor.

Mohammad Zohar was threatening his sister with a blade. He inflicted a wound on her left arm. The three caught his sister by her arms and banged her head on the wall. They threw his sister from the third floor and she died. — OC
