Ludhiana, December 6
It was another tough day for rail passengers travelling to and from the national capital as an Intercity Express (12460) was delayed by more than seven hours today. Another pair of the Intercity Express — 14681/82 New Delhi-Jalandhar-New Delhi — terminated at and originated from Ambala Cantt as it did not run on the Jalandhar-Ambala Cantt section. Another train on this route, 12498 Amritsar-New Delhi Shane-Punjab, was running late by half an hour.
Wary frequent travellers to Delhi/New Delhi said the disrupted rail traffic for over a month had created an uncertainty over the schedule of trains. “One never knows when a train will be cancelled, short terminated or delayed by hours, making it tough for those wanting to travel to Delhi and return by night. Now, we prefer to travel by road, but that, too, can serve the purpose only if the region hasn’t been engulfed in fog,” said a hosiery goods agent, who makes a number of trips to Delhi during winters.
According to the railways, 12407 Newjalpaiguri-Amritsar Karambhoomi Express, 13006 Howrah-Amritsar Mail, 13151 Kolkata-Howrah Express, 14650 Amritsar-Jaynanagr Saryu-Yamuna Express and 15209 Saharsa-Amritsar Jansewa Express were cancelled for the day.
Further, the 12421 Nanded-Amritsar Express was diverted through an alternate route from New Delhi to Ludhiana.
Besides, four trains were rescheduled for late departure. These were 12460 Amritsar-New Delhi Intercity Express (5.45 hours), 12715 Nanded-Amritsar Sachkhand Express (5.15 hours), 14681 New Delhi-Jalandhar (terminated at Ambala Cantt) (5.30 hours) and 14673 Jaynanagr-Amritsar Shaheed Express (1 hour).
Meanwhile 12355 Rajendrananagr Patna (Jammu Archana Express) and 15651 Guwahati-Jammu Lohit Express was running late by more than 11 hours.
