Nitya Mahajan can be perfectly termed as an all rounder student as she adorns many feathers in her cap. She added another after the declaration of Class XII results announced by the Central Board of Secondary Education on Thursday. Nitya is a student of Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar, and has bagged first position in humanities stream with 97.8 per cent.
A cadet of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), Nitya is also a national-level Bharatnatyam dancer who has performed at the Rashtarpati Bhawan. In 2016, she was conferred the award of All India NCC Best Cadet by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. She said Bharatnatyam helped her to de-stress after a tiring study schedule.
Nitya has held a position in the student council as the school president in Class X and school prefect in Class XII. She said: “The principal of the school, Sister Reshmi, has always been a great help throughout my school years and has always encouraged the students to take part in extra-curricular activities.” Not only Nitya but her parents also, Nalin Mahajan, a businessman and Nupur Mahajan, a freelance artiste, are on cloud nine for the success of their daughter.
She says that psychology interests her a lot. “I want to extend a helping hand to the society. If we see from a psychological point of view, we can see that there is so much suffering among the people, especially children due to non-communication. I want a society with people having healthy relationships,” she added.
Aspiring to join the Indian Foreign Services (IFS), Nitya is close to making her dreams come true as she has got through the University of Toronto with a scholarship and the University of British Columbia. “It was my dream to be a student of the University of British Columbia so I have chosen it to pursue psychology there,” she said.
Nitya has secured 100/100 in political science, 99/100 in geography, 99/100 in psychology, 97/100 in English and 94/100 in Bharatnatyam.
