The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has become more vigilant over the misuse of its name and logo by some mischievous elements of society.
As per the communiqué received from the NHRC, New Delhi, no person would be allowed to use name and logo similar to that of NHRC as well as the State Human Rights Commissions without their permission. And if any person or organisation indulges in such an act, then strict action would be taken against them as it is illegal.
Deputy Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Agrawal said the NHRC, New Delhi, has written a letter to Punjab Government stating that as per the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1950, the name of NHRC is mentioned at number 26 and 27 of this Act.

The Deputy Commissioner stated that if any person was caught indulging in such an act, then strict legal action would be taken against them, besides he can be fined as well as penalised. He said that it has come to the notice of the NHRC that some societies and NGOs get themselves registered as a society/trust/company etc and start using names or logos similar to NHRC or State Human Rights Commission, which is illegal.
