Aids awareness drive

Ludhiana: The Red Ribbon Club, of BCM College of Education organised an awareness drive to sensitise people regarding AIDS. Dr Prem Kumar, executive director, Lala Bahadur Chand Munjal Foundation, flagged off the rally and encouraged students to unite and fight against HIV. The students wore red ribbons, a global symbol for solidarity with HIV-positive patients. Principal Dr Monika Dua appreciated the students and congratulated the staff for holding the drive.

Seminar held for commerce students 

Post-graduate department of commerce at Khalsa Collge for Women organised a seminar titled “IGNITION: A concourse on disciplines of commerce”. Students presented emerging dimensions in banking, investment, marketing, law, insurance, accounting, taxation and business ethics. Students were adjudged on parameters, including knowledge, creativity and presentation. Renowned chartered accountant Kawithansh Khanna was chief guest and said such types of events should be frequently organised to bridge the gap between theory and practice. The event focused on creating a platform for students to showcase their creativity and display academic knowledge through innovative ideas. Principal Dr Mukti Gill appreciated the efforts of department and students.

CII organises ‘Skill-Will-Lead’ event 

The CII along with Majestic Auto organised an event titled “Skill-Will-Lead” at Department of Business Administration, Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana. The objective of this programme was to provide exposure to business management students and make them future prepared. Teams from various institutes, including the UBS-PU, PAU, PCTE, GGNIMT, GNIMT, KIMT and GNDEC participated in the event. Dr Sehijpal Singh, Principal, GNDEC, along with head of the department Dr Sukhdev Singh welcomed the chief guest.

M.com students prove mettle

MCom first semester students of Kamla Lohtia SD College, Ludhiana, proved their mettle in Panjab University (PU) semester exams conducted in December 2018. Deepak Kumar stood seventh in the PU with 82.86 per cent. Komal Kakkar ranked second in the college by obtaining 80.86 per cent followed by Prince Bhola, who stood third in the college with 80.43 per cent.  The overall result of the college was 100 per cent. Principal Dr Bimlesh Kumar Gupta congratulated the students and asked them to aim higher to cherish their dreams. 

Fashion designing centre launched

 As a part of the ongoing drive to impart education in skill development, Arya College, Ludhiana, launched a new fashion designing and stitching centre. Needy students were given scholarships worth Rs 51,000 and Rs 21,000. Satisha Sharma, secretary, said this would assist girls to develop entrepreneurship skills. Principal Dr Savita Uppal thanked partners who came forward to empower women.

Int’l seminar on Guru Nanak Dev 

Post-graduate department of Punjabi and IQAC of Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd, organised a one-day international seminar on “Saada Samkaal Ate Guru Nanak Dev”. The event was dedicated to the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev. Dr.Sarbjinder Singh, Professor and Dean Resources, chairman Bhai Gurdas Chair, Shri Guru Granth Sahib Research Centre, Punjabi University, Patiala, delivered the key note address. He said, “We need to introspect ourselves to eradicate the vices in us, if we claim to be followers of Guru Nanak Dev.”  The first technical session was chaired by Prof Baljinder Kaur, Regional Centre Muktsar, and resource person was Dr Balwinderpal Singh, former HoD, GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sudhar, and editor “Saada Virsa Saada Gaurav”. The second technical session was chaired by Dr Kuldeep Singh, Kurkshetra University, Haryana. The resource persons were Dr Sarbjot Kaur former head of Punjabi department, Government College for Girls, Ludhiana, and president, Sahitkar Sadan Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle, Ludhiana , Dr Harinder Hundal from Punjabi University, Patiala , Dr Manwinder Singh from GNDU, Amritsar, and Dr Sarwn Singh, director, Guru Tegh Bahadur Interfaith Academy, Kotla Surf, Batala.
