A student of Class VII at DAV Public School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar branch, Harshika Dhami, has emerged as an all-rounder cricketer as well as an athlete.
After earning accolades in track events in athletics, Harshika (12) has won distinction of becoming the first girl cricketer from the school.
Harshika started playing cricket two years ago and gave a good account of herself in the Ludhiana District Inter-School Cricket Championship (U-14). She represented district team in the Punjab State Inter-District Cricket Championship for U-14 girls held at Fazilka in September last year.
Harshika was selected as a pace bowler. She performed well not only with the ball, but also contributed significantly with the bat to hog limelight. Now, she concentrates on batting so as to become an all-rounder and an asset for her team.
An avid follower of Indian women’s star cricketer Mithali Raj, Harshika aspires to play for the country one day and bring glory to her parents and the state.
Harshika is also a good athlete. She has been winning top honours in the 100-metre sprint, 200-metre race, besides relay race for the last-three consecutive years in the annual athletics meet of the school. She also won titles in these three events in the Ludhiana District Inter-School Athletics Meet held at Jesus Sacred Heart School, South City, in 2016 and at Guru Nanak Public School, Sarabha Nagar, in 2017.
Sports instructor at the school Amandeep Singh, under whose guidance Harshika gets training, speaks highly about the promising player. “Harshika is a talented girl. She is regular, hardworking, disciplined and has the potential to produce excellent sports results,” he said.
The Principal, DAV School, JK Sidhu, appreciated Harshika’s achievements and wished her more success in future.
