Another feather in Lakshay’s cap

Local shuttler, Lakshay Sharma has continued his winning spree by adding another feather in his cap. Now, this prodigy has bagged silver medal in the All-India Sub-Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament-2017 held from August 24 to 30 at Jaipur.

Lakshay (12), a student of Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar, Ludhiana, teamed up with Ankit Mondal from West Bengal to give a stupendous performance to storm into the final. However, the pair tumbled at the last hurdle, going down to secure a silver medal.

After getting better of their opponents in the preliminary round matches, the duo of Lakshay and Ankit reached knock-out stage. In the quarterfinal, they overpowered Ark Jain and Sanskar Saraswat of Rajasthan in three sets by 21-13, 21-23 and 23-21.

In the semifinal, Lakshay and Ankit defeated Telengana pair of Abhinay Sairam and Rushendra Thirupathi 13-21, 21-12 and 21-15 to assure themselves berths in the summit clash.

In the final, the duo went down against Lokesh Reddy K and Satwik Reddy of Telngana in straight sets 15-21 and 13-21 and finished runners-up.

Lakshay has already established himself on the national and international arena. He won gold medal in the PNB Met Life North Zone Badminton Championship in the Under-11 group, besides top position in the doubles section in the All India Sub Junior Ranking Tournament.

Lakshay won Swiss Youth Open Tournament (U-11) and bagged three medals in the Glasgow Youth International Tournament in 2015. He won gold in doubles, silver in singles and bronze in mixed doubles. The district administration felicitated him for his outstanding achievements at the Independence Day function this year. He was honoured by Punjab Cabinet Minister, Brahm Mohindra on the occasion.

Sister Reshmi and Sister Lourdes, Principal and Vice- Principal, respectively, Sacred Heart Convent School, appreciated Lakshay’s achievements and wished him more success in future competitions.
