Arshdeep Singh Kailey stamped his superiority, wrapping up four titles and was adjudged the best athlete in the boys’ section. Daud Masih also showed his mettle and won five titles in the 12th Annual Athletics Meet of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) held on the Punjab Agricultural University campus ground here today.
In the girls’ category, Guneet Chahal proved her class, clinching titles and was declared the best athlete in the girl’s category.
Over 200 students, representing colleges of GADVASU namely College of Veterinary Science, College of Dairy Science and Technology, College of Fisheries, School of Animal Biotechnology, Veterinary Polytechnic, Kaljharani (Bathinda) and affiliated colleges of the university Khalsa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Amritsar and Baba Hira Dass Ji College of Veterinary Pharmacy, Badal participated in the meet.
Dr Amarjit Singh Nanda, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU inaugurated the meet. Senior retired alumni members of the varsity also attended the opening ceremony of the meet.
The sports torch was being lighted by senior athletes of the university.
The College of Veterinary Science bagged overall trophy and Khalsa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Amritsar was declared the runners-up.
Pradeep Kumar Agarwal, Deputy Commissioner of Ludhiana was chief guest at the prize distribution function. He said sports improve the health of students and enhance their confidence.
“Sports promote good habits and inculcate better values in a person. He advised the students to work hard to excel in their respective fields. Former hockey Olympian and DCP, Ludhiana, Gaganajit Singh, was the guest of honour on this occasion. The university colour was also awarded to the best students in different fields.
In the theatre category, Harpreet Kaur, Tej Pal Singh and Amritpal Singh were given this award while in fine arts category, this honour was shared by Harsimranjit Kaur and Kirpal Singh, respectively.
Dr Nanda, VC, appreciated the efforts put in by the various committee members in conducting the meet successfully.
Dr Satyavan Rampal, Director, Students’ Welfare, GADVASU presented annual sports report highlighting achievements by the university sportspersons at different level tournaments.
Dr Parkash Singh Brar, Dean College of Veterinary Science, proposed vote of thanks and congratulated the winners. On this occasion, faculty, staff and students were there to encourage the participants.
